For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

Did your parents ever ask you to finish your plate when you were little – even though you were full?

When I began spiritually fasting, I found myself overeating – even really healthy food and I had to stop and put this circumstance through The Thought Model a few times and get coached on it as well. What I found was just a well-intentioned thought that I was taught when I was young to finish my plate.

Thoughts are important.

They form actual neural pathways that shape our results. These pathways are the foundation of our thoughts, feelings, actions, and habits. They are the patterns in the brain that represent our thoughts and are formed by the connections between neurons. So, even unconsciously thinking that I should be finishing my plate at every meal could inhibit me from stopping when I am full.

Luckily, God designed our neural pathways to denature if we stop utilizing that path. It begins in our thoughts – as we speak different words in regard to our plate of food. It’s biological, neurological, and theological.

Theological because we have powerful spiritual help available to us through our Guardian Angels. We can ask them to help us by inviting them into our thoughts and replace the lies with those that are filled with Truth and Love.

One way to begin this process so that we remember to invite our Guardian Angels into our thoughts about “eating to enough” is to save the last bite of food for them.

In my Delay and Pray Group Coaching Experience, we talk about this and about saving the last bite of every meal for our Guardian Angel. This is so important for many reasons. First of all, it reminds us to think of our Guardian Angel who is always at our side – helping us in every way.

We can talk to him and ask him to obtain the graces for us to help eat slowly, to recognize fullness, and not to overeat or overdrink. We can also leave that last bite of food and that last sip of alcohol for him in thanksgiving and praise for all that he does for us and for Jesus. And, then we can say this little prayer that always makes me cry:

“Sweet Guardian Angel, ask the high-ranking angels to take this small sacrifice from maximum comfort to God as a gift from me in gratitude for the value of my life.”

When you do this, high-ranking angels draw near to collect it and help carry it to God. Everyone near you receives the blessings and light of these high-ranking angels as they draw near to you.

Isn’t that beautiful? It’s from the book, Angel Power by Janice Connell.

Other things to do are eating with those that you love or in silence so you can concentrate on being with your Guardian Angel while you eat. Drinking water every few bites helps, too. And, of course, lastly – eat whole foods with a high satiety score – like vegetables and protein. You are less likely to overeat these things. They are frankly just not as yummy as French fries, but you will get used to offering up those fries for your spiritual purpose and that ‘why that makes you cry.’

It’s totally worth it. Your Guardian Angel can help you do all these things! Just ask.

This month, access the power of the angels. Write the Last Bite Prayer down on a card so you remember it — your Guardian Angel is here to help you. Let me know how it goes!!
