Giving During Lent
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.“
– Matthew 25:35
When most Catholics think about Lent, we usually focus on prayer and fasting. We plan our sacrifices, attend Mass more often, and try to grow spiritually during these forty days. But the third pillar of Lent—almsgiving—often gets pushed aside or postponed.
In this episode of The Delay and Pray Podcast, Beth explores the deeper meaning of almsgiving and why it is just as important as prayer and fasting. True almsgiving is more than simply writing a check. It is love in action—a response to Christ’s call to care for those in need. When we give our time, talent, and treasure, we loosen our attachment to comfort and allow God to reshape our hearts.
Beth also shares how the three pillars of Lent work together. Prayer deepens our relationship with God, fasting detaches us from food and material comforts, and almsgiving opens our hearts to the poor. When practiced together, these disciplines create real transformation during the Lenten season.
You’ll also hear practical ideas for giving during Lent, reflections on the Works of Mercy, and a reminder that the money saved through fasting can become a powerful act of charity for those in need.
Lent is a beautiful opportunity to grow in generosity and trust in God.
So this Lent:
Get hungry. Get holy. And get generous for Christ.
Help Beth reach her goal of bringing 1 Million Catholics back to the Church
