He must increase, I must decrease. ”

Fasting doesn’t have to feel like deprivation. In fact, it can be the most nourishing part of your day, when done with Jesus at the center. In this episode, Beth invites us into what she calls “Dining In with Jesus,” a powerful mindset shift that reimagines fasting as a spiritual feast.

He Must Increase, I Must Decrease

This episode opens with a scripture from John 3:30: “He must increase, I must decrease.” It’s a reminder that this journey is not just about shrinking in size—it’s about letting go of self-reliance and letting Christ take the lead. When we fast, we make room for God’s grace to grow stronger within us. Beth encourages listeners to move beyond counting calories and instead look at fasting through the lens of faith and love.

Fasting with Purpose and Presence

“Dining In with Jesus” is more than a catchy phrase—it’s an invitation to create intentional fasting windows where we feast not on food, but on the Word of God, prayer, adoration, and the Eucharist. Beth explains that when we fast with spiritual purpose, we are “dining in” on both stored body fat and divine grace. It’s biology and theology working in harmony. The body decreases, and Christ increases.

Beth shares the joy of witnessing real-life miracles through fasting, including her daughter’s baby turning out of breech position after dedicated prayer and fasting. This isn’t about restriction—it’s about redemption. It’s about transforming cravings into communion with Christ.

Understanding the Science: Why Insulin Matters

Beth introduces the biology behind fasting, focusing on insulin—the hormone responsible for fat storage. By limiting eating windows and choosing whole, low-insulin-spiking foods, we allow our bodies to tap into stored fat and reach a state of ketosis. This state, often misunderstood, simply reflects our bodies burning fat efficiently, leading to mental clarity and physical health.

She emphasizes that even small choices like chewing gum or drinking keto-friendly beverages can keep insulin elevated, preventing fat burning and spiritual clarity. Fasting gives your pancreas a break and your soul a chance to reset.

Runaway Foods and Spiritual Sabotage

One of the most relatable sections of the episode is Beth’s discussion on “runaway foods”—those tempting items like wine, chips, or peanut butter that sabotage our fasting and discipline. These foods, she says, can become idols. She urges listeners to treat them like toxic relationships and let them go. Take them to adoration. Ask Jesus if you need the food—or if you just need Him.

Practical Tips for Dining In

To begin dining in with Jesus, Beth recommends:

  • Establishing defined eating and fasting windows

  • Incorporating spiritual habits during fasting times (Mass, prayer, adoration)

  • Avoiding snacking and sticking to planned meals

  • Delaying sugar, flour, and alcohol until Sunday

  • Removing trigger foods from your home

This approach isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress and purpose. When you fall, you “fail forward,” starting again with grace.

Jenay’s Story: Transformation from the Inside Out

The episode closes with a powerful testimony from Jenay, a client who entered the Delay and Pray coaching experience at her heaviest weight and lowest emotional state. Diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder and overwhelmed, she took a chance on this spiritual approach to health. Within months, she lost over 30 pounds and eventually reached a 60-pound loss—all while growing in faith and peace.

Her story illustrates the heart of spiritual fasting: focus on others, surrender your cravings, and let God handle the transformation.

Final Prayer

The episode ends with a beautiful spiritual fasting prayer:

“May our hearts crave the Living Word and have the courage to turn toward His craving instead of ours. We’ve tasted the sweetness of His love; it really is the peace that is beyond all understanding. Worldly pleasure will ruin us if we don’t let Jesus tame our wild hearts.”

Amen.
