What We Can Be, We Must Be!
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord.”
– Isaiah 55:8
Life is full of challenges, setbacks, and moments where we question our ability to keep moving forward. Whether it’s our health, our faith, or our purpose, we are constantly faced with decisions that shape who we become. But here’s the truth: what we can be, we must be —not just for ourselves, but for those around us.
Resilience: The Key to a Virtuous Life
In this episode of The Delay and Pray® Podcast, we explore the importance of resilience—both in our spiritual and physical journeys. Life doesn’t wait. Responsibilities don’t pause. And neither does our mission to become the people God created us to be.
Resilience is the ability to withstand and recover from difficulties. It’s about having faith that even in sickness, struggles, or storms, we can bounce back stronger. How do we do this? By keeping our eyes on Christ and leaning into the sacraments.
Fasting as a Path to Virtue
Spiritual fasting isn’t just about losing weight—it’s about choosing virtue over vice. When we delay sugar, flour, and alcohol, we train ourselves to lean into discipline, patience, and trust in God’s plan. We begin to recognize that reaching for unhealthy foods or distractions is often a way of numbing pain instead of facing it.
The saints understood this well. They embraced fasting and self-denial not as punishment but as a pathway to holiness. When we choose fasting, we’re choosing resilience. We’re choosing to strengthen our minds, bodies, and souls in a way that honors the Lord.
Fear is the Real Enemy
One of the biggest obstacles to growth is fear—fear of failure, fear of discomfort, fear of change. But fear is often nothing more than false evidence appearing real. The truth is, we will stumble, we will struggle, and we will have moments where we fall short.
But failure is simply a stepping stone to learning.
If we are willing to push through discomfort, trust God’s process, and embrace the journey, we will grow stronger. Our faith is built in the moments when we decide to keep going—despite the obstacles.
Health is a Non-Negotiable
Many of us put our health on the back burner, thinking we’ll “get to it later.” But our physical health is deeply connected to our spiritual well-being. If we want to be present for our families, if we want to serve others well, if we want to fulfill the mission God has given us—we must prioritize our health.
The truth is, it’s never too late to start. Whether you’re 30, 50, or 80, taking control of your health now will give you more years of vibrant, Christ-centered living.
Find Your WHY and Take Action
Change doesn’t happen overnight. It requires a strong WHY—a deep, soul-burning reason to keep going even when it’s hard. In Delay and Pray®, we focus on two WHYs:
- A physical goal—getting healthy, losing weight, and increasing energy.
- A spiritual goal—growing closer to God through discipline and fasting.
When you have a strong WHY, you’ll be less likely to give up when challenges arise. But you don’t have to do it alone! Surround yourself with a community that supports you, prays for you, and holds you accountable.
It’s Time to Take the First Step
Your future is unwritten. You have the power to change your life right now—to break free from unhealthy patterns, to strengthen your faith, and to become the person God is calling you to be.
🔹 Don’t wait for the “perfect” time. The time is now.
🔹 Commit to fasting, prayer, and making your health a priority.
🔹 Surround yourself with people who encourage and uplift you.
Let’s make this the year we fully embrace who God created us to be. Because what we can be, we must be.
