“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

– John 8:32

As we continue our Fast for Freedom this year, it is important to know the truth, not only for our country but for all countries!

John 8:32, says, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”. Jesus Christ said this to a group of Jews who believed He was the Messiah.

On the podcast today, I am joined by Jonathan O’Brien, author of Called to Compiègne which is the captivating story of 16 heroic Carmelite Nuns who would not be cowed by the terror of the French Revolution and were martyred for their faith. Included with the story is a translation of the full relation of events left by Sister Marie de l’Incarnation, one of the surviving Carmelites, and various letters and other pieces of writing that survived.

I want to be more hungry for the truth than I am for food. Jonathan says that most people today have a fundamental misunderstanding of the French Revolution, why it happened, and who was affected. He describes this event as a Catholic Holocaust that occurred in France as a direct result.

Jonathan points out that two things are sorely lacking today:

1. A true understanding of history through the lens of an objective moral truth

2. Displays of faith and heroism in the face of evil and materialism that we can emulate.

We need to see examples of Saints like these Carmelite Nuns so that we, too, will have the moral courage to fast and pray and stand up for Christ – even to death.

When you listen to this podcast and read this story, it will motivate you to fast for freedom around the world. The nuns talk about freedom quite a bit. These nuns know exactly where their freedom comes from: Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
