Mindset, Meals & Miracles: Cindy’s Delay and Pray Testimony
“Jesus looked at them and said to them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
– Matthew 19:26
This week, Beth is joined by her client Cindy, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, as she shares her story of transformation through the Delay and Pray® Group Coaching Experience. Cindy shares her transformative journey of spiritual fasting, and how it has positively impacted her physical health, mindset, and faith.
Finding Delay and Pray®
Cindy first discovered Delay and Pray® through an interview on Iowa Catholic Radio. Initially, she was intrigued but hesitant. However, after hearing a second interview with Beth, she felt called to explore further. She purchased the book, and after prayerful consideration, decided to commit to the group coaching experience in mid-January.
At that time, she was struggling with previous diet plans that required frequent eating—small portions every two to three hours, often consisting of processed foods like protein bars and shakes. The goal was to maintain stable blood sugar levels, but Cindy found the approach unsustainable. Entering Delay and Pray®, she embraced a new perspective that focused on intermittent fasting, whole foods, and prayer.
Shifting the Mindset and Finding Success
Cindy quickly learned that fasting did not lead to unbearable cravings or blood sugar crashes. Instead, she discovered that extended fasting periods allowed her body to naturally regulate glucose levels and tap into stored fat for energy. This physiological process, known as ketosis, helped Cindy transition away from constant food consumption while still maintaining strength and focus.
In the Delay and Pray® program, participants set both physical and spiritual goals. Cindy’s physical goal was to reach a healthy weight, and she achieved remarkable progress—losing 12 pounds and nearing her impossible goal. More importantly, her spiritual goal was deeply intertwined with fasting. She found that prayer during fasting periods strengthened her connection with God and allowed her to offer sacrifices for her loved ones.
The Beauty of Spiritual Fasting
Unlike traditional diets that focus primarily on weight loss, Delay and Pray® integrates faith into the journey. Cindy shared how fasting became a form of intercession for others. She embraced fasting not just as a means of self-improvement, but as a way to lift up her family and broader intentions, including praying for the Conclave as they selected a new Pope.
Through fasting, Cindy deepened her trust in God, recognizing that her sacrifices had a purpose beyond herself. The spiritual aspect also helped her manage emotions and thoughts that previously led to unhealthy eating habits.
Sustainable and Joyful Eating
One of Cindy’s key takeaways was the enjoyment of whole, satisfying foods. She moved away from processed meals and instead embraced protein-rich dishes with vegetables and healthy fats. She learned that consuming real food kept her nourished and eliminated cravings. This shift helped her feel more in control, reducing the need for constant meal planning and allowing her to focus on other areas of life.
The Acts of the Apostles in Daily Life
As Cindy reflected on her journey, she found parallels with the Acts of the Apostles. Just as the early disciples spread the Gospel, fasting and prayer allowed her to actively participate in God’s work. She began incorporating the sacraments more frequently and felt a renewed sense of purpose in her faith.
Her experience serves as an inspiration for anyone struggling with diet culture, overconsumption, or the desire for a deeper spiritual life. The Delay and Pray® method offers a path to freedom—freedom from food fixation, freedom from unhealthy habits, and the true freedom found in surrendering to God.
Looking Ahead
As Cindy continues on this path, she remains committed to fasting and prayer. She encourages others to embrace the journey, reminding them that spiritual fasting is not about deprivation, but about discovering abundance in Christ.
