Chapter 5 – The Thought Model of Possibility with God

Jun 12, 2025

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind. ”

Have you ever found yourself stuck in a cycle of discouragement, especially around fasting, weight loss, or any area of personal transformation? Maybe you’ve asked yourself, “Why can’t I stick with it?” or “What’s wrong with me?” If so, you’re not alone – and there’s real hope.

In this week’s episode, we dive into a transformative approach called the Thought Model of Possibility with God. This isn’t just a mindset strategy; it’s a spiritual tool rooted in scripture, Catholic tradition, and personal growth. It’s designed to help you align your thoughts with truth, grace, and your divine purpose.

Why Your Thoughts Matter

St. Paul tells us in Romans 12:2, “Be transformed by the renewal of your minds.” This isn’t just a poetic suggestion—it’s a command with life-changing implications. Our thoughts shape our feelings, influence our actions, and ultimately determine our results. When we fast or pursue health from a spiritual perspective, our mindset must be part of the process. Fasting becomes less about self-denial and more about offering ourselves wholly to God.

Introducing the Thought Model

The Thought Model offers a clear framework:
Circumstances → Thoughts → Feelings → Actions → Results.
The key is that our thoughts are the hinge. We may not control every circumstance, but we always have a choice in how we think about it.

Consider this example:

  • Circumstance: You ate cookies while watching TV.

  • Thought: “I’m failing again.”

  • Feeling: Shame.

  • Action: Eat more. Give up.

  • Result: Continued failure.

Now, shift the thought:

  • Thought: “God is helping me learn.”

  • Feeling: Encouraged.

  • Action: Pray, journal, walk, plan your meals.

  • Result: Growth. A step closer to transformation.

The Power of the “Thought Ladder”

Sometimes, positive thinking feels out of reach. That’s where the Thought Ladder comes in. Instead of leaping from “I’m a failure” to “I’m amazing,” start with a bridge thought like, “With God, I’m learning to be consistent.” This gentle shift opens the door for grace to enter—and that’s when real change begins.

Fasting with Purpose

When your fasting is linked to something greater—like praying for a loved one or offering your efforts for the Church—your mindset shifts from obligation to sacred offering. It becomes not just about body transformation, but soul transformation.

Start the Practice

What’s one thought you often have about your body, your habits, or your spiritual discipline? Write it down. Ask Jesus: Is this thought serving your highest good? Let Him into your mental dialogue. Let the Holy Spirit transform your perspective.

Remember, you’re not broken. You’re being renewed. Every surrendered thought is a seed of grace.
